How many days a week should you work out?

Updated: Aug 9, 2020

Making Fitness Fit your Lifestyle!

The short answer – whatever is sustainable for you! So many people get caught up in having the perfect workout routine and think they need to be hitting the gym 6 days a week in order to be considered “fit”. But what often happens when people try to over commit, is they fall short and feel discouraged or that they are “failing” and then they stop going all together.

1.Finding the Time

Look at whatever else you have going on in your life – between school, work, volunteering, sports, your social life, family, and whatever else there may be. How many times a week can you continuously commit to going to the gym and working out? If it’s only 3, then that is great! 3 is better than 0. And 3 is better than aiming for 6, not ever being able to make it 6 times, feeling defeated, and stop going to the gym all together.

2.Fitness enhances your life, not hinders

Fitness and working out should be an addition to your life that makes you better, physically and mentally. But if working out becomes a chore or something you dread – that is a good indication that you may need to scale back your workout schedule, or mix up your workouts.

3.Optimal Results

It’s a hard balance between finding a sustainable workout routine that you can consistently keep up with but still training enough to reach your goals. Optimally speaking if you have strength, or muscle growth goals it is recommended you resistance train 3-5 times a week. Choose a target that not only aligns with your goals, but is manageable for you and your life!

Do What Works for You

More is not always better. You can still be fit and healthy by working out 3 times a week. Plan your workout routine with what fits your life and will be sustainable in the long term! Adherence to your workout routine is what allows us to see results.

No matter how fast your run, you'll never be the winner if you don’t finish!
